Changed my network and got a new phone. Decided 2 get one with full internet. Got a Smart phone, now that sounded like a recipe for disaster! Anyhows got a HTC, and it came with an instruction book as thick as an novel, chapters and all. Have managed 2 get onto here and send this thread. Not 2 bad!? It runs on windows software. Havent worked out anything else even my phonebook has still 2 be done. Isnt technology amazing!  Now what chapter next;-)

Hey if you have any specific problems trying to view SF pages with it, don't be afraid to yell Trin - sometimes you have to code pages a bit differently for mobile devices.

What version of Windows is it.. does this look familiar?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Mobile

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_Mobile

If there's interest in using these sort of devices I might start using something like http://www.cnet.com.au/downloads/0,239030384,10386790s,00.htm to check our pages come up okay on them

- scrub that that's text-only WAP, think you've got something better than that.. I'm having a look at a Windows Mobile webbrowser emulator now, so I can try & check our pages look okay Smiley

Argie....
It's pretty similiar to the first link.....Windows Mobile.

I have outlook express, microsoft word/ powerpoint, excel....video calling, goes so many things.
I even viewed MSN homepage and logged onto hotmail.
Have used my yahoo mail....and messenger as well....Gawd the world my Oyster!!!!

I can view SF, page abit big...but i use Touchflo.....which is a bit like the I-phone to swish up and down and between items.

Phone book still not sorted. Will get there, old network still valid for another couple of weeks, so time to get used to the new one, before i forward my new number to everyone.

This ones a HTC Touch Dual (P5500) PM.

Thanks for the offer of help Argie....might need it at some point.   gif

I've downloaded Microsoft's generic Windows Mobile 6 Software Development Kit & Standalone Emulator which should in theory let me use a representation of a smartphone on a PC, to see what SF looks like on a handheld.. it's running & it's very handy, but unfortunately the one feature I can't actually get working is viewing webpages in pocket IE gif

I might be able to find a specific emulator for the 'HTC Touch Dual (P5500) PM' somewhere.

Well I'm having no joy with what I'm trying to do, using the Microsoft emulator, but on my travels I ran across this forum:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php

specific areas for yours might be: (i could be wrong)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=401

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=402

Thought it looked a useful place for you if you come across any hard questions Smiley

I want one of these now!

According to this

http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=736

..your display is 240 pixels wide x 320 pixels high, so I guess we could do with a selectable theme optimised for pda's/smartphones. I've started work on something but It's going to take a long time to finish & at the mo there's quite a lot of pressing stuff to be done that takes priority, but it should eventually be quite handy.

If you want to give it a whirl, I'd recommend you first register a second account purely for smartphone use, and then set that second account to use the smartphone theme, which is called 'LMF', via your new account's 'Look and Layout preferences' in its profile settings.

Sometime down the line I should be confident enough to say it's safe for anyone to switch between the standard Amber site theme, and the smartphone theme, whenever they feel the urge.. but not just yet.

The main danger isn't that you'll do any damage to anything, it's that I might lock you out whilst working on the new theme.. & if you've set it up on your main account, you won't be able to get back in without hollering for help gif

Argie sounds like a great idea, a second account.....then SF will fit in my hand.....lol
HOw come you're so talented... gif

Would hate to be locked out....so second account it is.....love my new phone.....its BRILL!!!!!!

My daughters got the new Samsung Tocca....with the same full internet access, although it doesnt run on windows...but it gives her access to everything she needs...and it works like the I-Phone....which she likes.

So we both have video calling,,,,,as does my niece...so that will be a strange experience... gif

So far everything i have used and sent has worked.....so i think i better get my phonebook set up....it sets up on Outlook or sim....so i need to compile all details carefully.
I even get windows updates...!!

Amazing! gif

Oh and i have saved the above links to favs..so i can - decypher - in my own time...lol

Argie, found a link thats been reviewing the HTC....havent had a chance to go through it all....seems they got hold of an early launch model....finished article is slightly different, only in the screen appearance on initial opening, then after that its pretty much the same.

Have you got GPS / satnav stuff on it.. not too well up on that sort of stuff but it's stood out as something really useful when I've looked at pda's & smartphones before.

Some of the devices have got a GPS receiver built-in I believe, so you just have to add the software. Others you have to add a receiver somehow  gif I dunno.. bluetooth or a little lead or something

I chickened out of a pda or a smartphone and got a tomtom last time. tomtom's great but obviously it doesn't have all the smartphone features

^ wow. some detailed link gif

Argie, Got my Novel out (instructions) and it does mention GPS connections/GPRS WIFI....I think the capabilities are there....just don't know how to find it.  The guy in the shop did mention it.

Just been looking through that link i posted..and the version i have is the Orange one further down the page.  I also looked into their forum, where some members are posting about their experience wit it.  Got to say....so far what they have wrote about mus thave been ironed out, cause mines working fine, all key board, qwerty, 20, 16 & 12...and all the type modes..also I have got 'Window live mobile installed...so not sure if the earlier models were the ones to sort the quirks.....abit like most early release new models.

LOve it anyway..even if i will take months to work it all out.. gif

There must be something in the air....I've just ordered a new phone on a contract (only been PAYG up to now). Have changed to 3 network and getting a Sony Ericsson W910i  gif

I was finding I'm spending  a fortune on texts but didn't want to spend silly money on the contract and 3 gave me the most texts for the least amount of money 1100 mins or text for £20 a month...seemed like a good deal to me Smiley
