ha! ha! you can't see me!

A few weeks back I needed a crown fitted, it cost £194 gif, my dentist said you need a second crown too, but you can get them both for the £194, great I thought, while I was there I asked about another crown that had come loose, I'll do that too he said.

Well the root the loose crown was attached to has cracked so it has to come out, gif over the years I have fought off having a plate, paying a lot of money for crowns instead, but now I need a plate to hold this one tooth, trouble is I have to pay another £198 to have that done.

It had got to the stage where I couldn't eat so I insisted the tooth was taken out today, but my plate is not ready so I'm walking round toothless at the mo, I'm in a lot of pain so I'm really feeling sorry for myself. gif

My pocket is not happy either, this will be £392 paid to the NHS in the last few weeks, whatever happened to the NHS free for all.

Your on band 3 Lurks.....but was £194 from 1st April 2007....now £198 from 1st April 2008......

If you need more treatment within the same or lower charge band, for example an additional filling, within two months of completing a course of treatment, you do not have to pay anything extra.

From April 2008................

Band 1 course of treatment - £16.20
This covers an examination, diagnosis (e.g. x-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, and a scale and polish if needed.

Band 2 course of treatment - £44.60
This covers everything listed in Band 1 above, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or if your dentist needs to take out one or more of your teeth.

Band 3 course of treatment - £198.00
This covers everything listed in Bands 1 and 2 above, plus crowns, dentures or bridges.

Urgent treatment - £16.20
If you require urgent care, but your urgent treatment needs more than one appointment to complete, you will only need to pay one charge of £16.20.

I'm outside the 2 months now Qwackz, but when I first asked I was within it and said to my dentist that it should be done under the £194, it doesn't work like that he said, to get it done within the 2 months without charge it has to be treatment on the original tooth, mine was a different tooth so I have to pay again.

The sentence you quoted above doesn't say that, but he insisted the NHS would insist on the second charge.

I think you also have to pay again as a "plate" would be classed as adiffernt course of treatment.......... gif
