pixie one step at a time, thats how you learn to cope ok although you may not be able to see it, usually these panic attacks have a trigger. It doesn't have to be anything physical it can be your own thoughts. meds are fine to begin with but eventually you have to learn to recognise an attack coming on and find your own Coping Strategies. I am terrified of speaking in public yet i do it quite successfully, simply by holding a pen and using its click button. one of the first exercises i ever learned to cope with a panic attack is this one Pause and take notice of your surroundings. look for something solid e.g. a chair, a table move over to it and lean or sit on it grasp it. Now take deep intakes of breath and breathe out slowly. Now you are taking back control. it isn't easy and it doesn't happen overnight but things will settle and if you need to chat you know you have support here. good luck

Anyone else suffer with these?
GP has given me some meds that slow my heart rate down because I can't do anything without having one, even things at home bring them on.
I've not been out of the house for a couple of weeks either (except to the GP today) because of these attacks.
How on earth are you supposed to deal with this? Pixie they are not easy to deal with and it sounds like you have had a few severe ones. Sometimes it can just be a case of mind over matter.Hope you are feeling better soon

sounds awful, I have anixety attacks which leave me floored well and truely, my milder ones feel like I'm having a heart attack, worse ones affect me totally, can't move a muscle and just want to hide away from everything
Hope the medication helps it for now

Been on the betablockers.. just as you say ACS, come off them and the heart rate goes up again.. but I can say I never really had any problems whilst taking them.
Doc just reckons I've no need for them anymore here so he's took me off them. I tried stopping taking them real quick & that was silly, pulse went sky high, seriously got the mother of all wooly heads and big jitters.
Tapered off them slowly over a couple of weeks after that daft episode & been okay since. Pulse settled back to something sane.

I know its not easy Pixie...but the more you stasy in the more paniced you will become at the thought of going out...... If you have a dog take it foe a walk or nip to the local shop............... I really wish I could do that. I have dreams of doing that (even though I don't have a dog).
It's something that has been with me for 30 years and Cas will know what started it off!
It was more a matter of not being able to walk and go out that brought it on. Now everytime things get difficult it comes back. This time it's bad but it's there all the time just not always this bad.
At least I've been able to go to the GP about it this time and try to get it sorted but I think I will always be like this now as it's too deep rooted and some things are still too close to home, if you know what I mean Cas!
Thanks for all your kind replies and your understanding.

The GP gave me Propranolol tabs. I don't know if there beta blockers or not but they sound like they would do the same thing.

Yep, they are a beta blocker. They're the ones I was on for a period, for borderline blood pressure. But I definitely did notice that they also had a calming side effect on any fight or flight or anxiety type feelings.
Can report no problems with them other than, if and when the time comes to stop taking them, do so gradually.

Thanks Argie.
GP told me to just take them when I felt it coming on rather than a regular dose.
I always dread problems with taking drugs but they don't look too bad and it's good to know that you had no problems with them too.
I just hope they help and mean I can go outside the house again sooner rather than later.

I was on sustained release 80mg When I came off them, the doc gave me 40mg non-sustained tablets & basically said, take them as little as poss, space out the doses as much as you can, cut the tablets in half etc. I'm now down to taking half a tablet every 2 or 3 days, i.e. nothing more than a placebo effect dose I think. Pretty much the next step in the next few days is to go see doc again & have my BP re-evaluated. It might have come down to normal now having quit the fags and lost a stone, fingers crossed Tapering off the things properly rather than trying to be a hero and quit them cold, hasn't been hard at all & no nasty effects. Anyway good luck with them.. hope they help things eh. They sure made my snooker hand a lot steadier I might keep a few tabs for special occasions
