Any pilots, wannabe-pilots, no-longer-airworthy-pilots, or just, general aviation enthusiasts on the board?

It's in a past life now really but I used to fly light aircraft, well I got as far as a first solo then quit because it was so expensive. Loss of a job meant i had to tighten the old belt a bit, and then in the flash of an eye a quarter of a lifetime's flashed by  Roll Eyes

Meny years ago I was in to Hang Gliding. An unbelievable experience, just about the nearest it is possible to bird flight.

Unfortunately time, rheumatics and body mass grounded me.

Took a flight from Burtonwood just the once Laz - can't recall the type of the glider but it was a high-wing, 2 seater one-behind-the-other type that got winched up by some sort of machine at the end of the runway. An RAF cadets group of some kind. Was only about 9 or 10 at the time, still recall it like yesterday, first flight I ever took Smiley

It was one sort of like this.. closest pic I could find

Never been hang gliding but done a fair bit of powered microlighting - Mainair Blades - I've honestly never felt safer in the air, even though it's really exposed & you just feel like you're sat on a motorbike with wings. They glide pretty well if the engine quits.

Is that the one where you have a steerable parachute and a hedgetrimmer on your back? They're great gif Never had a go but they look way cool

There was a feller on the news a few years ago crash landed one in the middle of a boxing match, both fighters forgot each other and started knocking seven bells out of the pilot  gif

Can't find a video but

I was bought a trail flying lesson as a birthday prezzie a few years back.  The instructor took off and actually landedf the plane but for the rest of the hour I had control (with his hands not far from the 'stick'  Smiley)  Absolutely fantastic, if I get the six balls  learning to fly is one of the first things on the agenda.
