i used to get sick of all the corporate abbreviations when i was at work, how many letters does it take to let people know they just lunched and took fat pay checks?

I know exactly what you mean, Duckie. Like people are always writing WTF - I still don't know what it is. Could it be military, do you think? ;>)

I'm justy kidding around, Cas although I am surprised these only occur in the US - at least that's what this thread title indicates.
Acronyms are a favourite peeve of mine. In the course of my work I often have meetings with medical, legal and social work folk who persist in  using them constantly. Even though I understand most of them, sometimes the people we are supposed to be helping ,do not, so using them is plain rude.

it annoys me when they use them and then explain what it means in the same sentence, why bother if you have to explain.

I hold my hand up - I am very guilty of using acronyms in my line of work; however, when talking to people who don't understand I do try and make sure they understand what the 'meaning' actually is.
