Dug out my old Hitachi PS12 turntable & fixed it up - it now plays 45's as well as 33's lol.

It's real good to hear the old vinyl again on a decent turntable. I've got it rigged up to a Tevion doo-dah that allows me to transfer to mp3 so I can get all my old records onto the car stereo's USB drive. Currently listening to The Stranglers' 'Waltz In Black' and it sounds crackin' through an oldschool Kenwood A-54 amp :-)

Be nice to find a decent valve amp!

Question is, I don't know if I've got the weight right. The tone arm has a counterweight and you can twist it to alter the balance, is there some kind of method to this?

I recently bought the new Ion turntable from QVC which was on special offer.   You play it through your computer and can download to MP3 or burn CDs if you want.    It also "cleans up" the sound from the records.

I have had a lovely few days listening to all my old vinyl records again.

Sounds like a neat piece of kit.

I'm getting the odd skip here & I can't decide whether the tone arm is not set heavy enough, or whether the 12" I'm playing has a couple of more than minor scratches on it.

Hmm - interesting vid:

How to set the tone arm on a vinyl turntable

Still not sure what the weight should be for my cartridge though. googletime

I was thinking about setting up shop lol. You're allowed a backup copy for personal use aren't you?

back in the late 70's/early 80's there used to be a universal kit available which was widely used by DJ's (including myself)

it consisted of a bit of bluetack & a 2p piece!!
