Went for a day out in Llangollen & got rained on!
Photos not great due to the horrible weather

River Dee at Llangollen - in the distance is the bridge over the river which is said to be the first stone bridge ever built across the Dee, originally erected in the 16th century

Looking across the river - Llangollen Station in the foreground. On top of the hill behind are the remains of Dinas Bran Castle
A visit to Minera Lead Mine - lead was mined here from Roman times up until the 1960's.
By that time the site in the pics had been covered by spoil heaps until it was excavated in the 1990's

The Engine House & Chimney - a steam engine was used to pump water from the mine. It had 2 boilers, both approximately 30 yards long, which were in a building alongside the engine house

A view from the top of the Engine House - you can see modern day Minera on the hillside across the valley
In Bersham we found a really pretty little church

St Mary's Church, Bersham

Sorry about the tree but it's a very small churchyard & this is the best I could do

A closeup of the tower, showing the coloured brick inserts, which don't seem to be as weather-resistant as the stone parts of the building
It was still grey & showery when we went to Denbigh, but the views from the castle were still good

It's a steep walk up to the castle

You would certainly see the enemy coming from up here

You can see for miles in all directions. The tower is all that remains of St Hillary's Chapel

A short section of the walls are still safe to walk on. This is the view from the top.
Final part to follow - with photos taken in sunshine!!
